Project Binky

Recommended Posts

Rather than let it get lost in the 'What did you watch lately?' thread, this is deserving of it's own topic.

Project Binky - ongoing project by Bad Obsession Motorsport to transfer the running gear from a Celica GT-Four into a classic Mini.

Huge thanks to Outcast Aussie for bringing this series to our attention to begin with.

Episode 13 is out now!

And while you're at it, if you like cars, building cars, modding cars, whatever - just add their channel to your account:

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCHvBHWBzzB7NyU5tIiEZHBg

I've got the latest ep downloading now in 720p to go with the remainder of the collection. At 20+ minutes apiece, definately worth playing on the big TV.

To download YouTube videos can be a hit/miss affair at times. Currently my best solution is a Firefox extension called "Download YouTube Videos as MP4", it puts a download button on each video's page which gives drop down options to save in whatever resolutions are available.

Another method is to visit a site that does the work for you, in my bookmarks are two which work sometimes but more often just don't:

VideoGrabby: Youtube Downloader

YouTube Downloader

Today's plan for me - watch ep 12 to get back up to speed then watch the new one (I've watched the entire series twice already).

Then come back later with comments.

Also, the guys were at this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed. There's numerous videos around for each year's event, though I don't know if they get any mentions.

:)

People have done so many mods on minis over the years.

Way back when there was a drag racing mini van that ran at Santa Pod, then the only drag strip in the UK, it had a Jaguar V-12 mid mounted and driving the rear wheels. Rather appropriately it was named "Stripteaser." :)

Cheers

Probably the best looking aluminium tank I've seen handbuilt, and it goes where nobody will see it.

Widening the wheels yourself is also a case of confidence of your own ability. But the worrying thing about that car is that it's going to end up with ridiculously oversized track - though they have done the wheels with offset such that it doesn't increase it.

okay, so i am told Binky is the name of a horse from Pratchett's books.

Well it is the name of Death's horse in the Discworld books but that is not the only use.

Somehow I missed the appearance of it earlier, will have to watch it now, then there's a new 28 minute video from BigClive that I can watch on the tablet in bed.

If we're into classic Mini's in this thread, I assume we've all watched the Mighty Car Mods "supercharge (E85) a classic mini", and the follow up episodes, where they rip the A series engine out, and put a B16A VTEC engine in there?

It's a damn good series.

Keep in mind the hosts, Marty and Moog are a couple of characters, and there's a LOT of in-joking going on, so if they just sound immature at times, well... they are... but not nearly as much as it may seem. :P

Here's part 1 of them supercharging the mini. Hopefully they link in order after each one finishes.

Here is when they rip out the classic engine and whack in a JDM B16 200hp block :D

Once again, it's multi part, so hopefully they "next video" in order.

Whilte impatiently waiting for the next build episode of the series to come out...

... I discovered another channel from good 'ol Canadia with multiple build series to get impatient at for the next episode to come out!

Not as funny or with as high quality production but a good watch, without the ego-wankery you'd get south of the border, and he's pretty skilled and knowledgeable.

I've subscribed, watched the series LS-swapped Mercedes AMG wagon sleeper to it's current point (engine start). It looks to be fairly close to completion so hopefully will be wrapped up in the coming months.

Plenty of other good videos on the channel too.

Small update, an outtakes episode, NWS.

I guess based on previous releases that the next build ep is probably due in the next month or 2.

You would of course know of the two engined mini... one engine for each axle?

The pair of them should cease and desist all else so that I don't have to wait so long for my next Binky fix...

Yep... but pretty certain this is a side-project that brings no money into the business other than merchandising for Bad Obsession Motorsport.

I guess they could go Patreon with it but then that means you get that obligation to listen to what the contributors want.

Although it's had a few backtracks and stumbles so far, way better progress than many could manage putting 3 times the hours into it. And commercial production quality and decent comic dose to go with it.
