SonOfNoddy 51 Posted August 2, 2016 So I have no internet on my PC at the moment, and I want to update one of my games, how would I go about doing so without getting internet to my pc?
Rybags 1,167 Posted August 2, 2016 Why not just connect the computer? Wifi dongle or network cable. Or, in theory you could just use a mobile phone in physical tethered (USB cable) mode... just set the phone to use wifi rather than carrier data.
smadge1 104 Posted August 2, 2016 You'd have to log in your account on the other PC, then download the game, then copy it's files (or "backup") then "restore" on your offline computer.
Master_Scythe 541 Posted August 2, 2016 If you copy and paste the entire STEAM folder and games, you simply log-in and "Verify Cache" or whatever that verify option is. It'll take an hour or so, but the downloads will be minimal. It will need some form of internet for a short time though.

Yeah I was thinking something like that...but what if I don't have another (windows) PC? To do one game, you're best off just re-downloading it. You'll need to get it online to authenticate before switching to 'offline mode' anyway!

Ok then, is there a way to extend an ethernet cable without having to have a million computers/adapters in between?

Master_Scythe 541 Posted August 3, 2016 I'd suggest having a break from gaming, go outside, find some pokemon! pokemon go is fucking disgraceful What makes you say that? IMO it gives a modern "gaming age" reason to go on a nice 10km stroll with friends. I havent seen anything disgraceful about it yet. Tons of idiots not looking UP enough while walking, but that goes for ANY portable gaming.... or facebook....

It is my opinion, but it's overhyped and I know you've probably heard this but everyone I know who plays pokemon go just became "zombies", I get into ingress though, that was really fun

It was well regarded and people got excited about its release, but no Hype at all (assuming you're using the 'gaming' term of hype, talking a product up before its release). I've had quite the opposite experience too with players. 10's of new people to talk to every night, all it takes is a trip to the park at 10pm and its packed with new people. We go for walks, laugh, stop at new places for lunch or midnight snacks. Clearly its different experience; but before PoGo came out, about the only thing people I knew wanted to do at night was sit in a house staring at a screen. While there's still a screen involved, at least now we're trekking the neighborhood and actually talking to each other face to face :D Maybe its your 'friends' who are bringing you down? between those comments, and your lazy\bored comments in the other thread, maybe no one out there is pushing you hard enough to evolve yourself a bit further in life (I'm so punny! but making a serious point...) No, the biggest difference is that ingress was so much better Orienteering is a very real skill. Seeing 10~20 'stops' and having to successfully plan a route, time drink breaks\public toilets, and manage people of different social skills and fitness levels IS a puzzle game. Not to mention, if the "socialising" part is so damn easy, this shoudl leave your mind free to DO all that planning, designing and deep thinking you "find fun" As for brain training type stuff, I know what you mean, and I'm of the same mind set. That's why I like PoGo so much. I can walk, be considered social, while in my own head I've just nutted out 2 arduino code problems, and a future upgrade path for my home server. Which saves a lot of planning time ONCE you get home! also, don't be 'that guy' everyone has friends. Even if they're unhealthy-relationships which you'll eventually grow apart from, they're still there. I was "that guy"; no one likes "that guy", because he really doesn't exist; he's just being a downer.
