Permission Denied - Windows 10

Recommended Posts

Building a new PC and wanting to transfer over some of the data so I plugged in my old SSD C: from PC1 into the new build. All OK and transferred over some files. Put it back into PC1 and now Windows fails to load properly. Seems that the permissions on some folders and files have been changed. I cant right click on folders and likewise, the windows menu just brings up the spinning wheel of death. I can access file explorer and have tried manually changing some folders, but after 2 hours I have barely touched the surface.

I would like to get PC1 to boot again - still need to use it.

Any help would be appreciated.

Advanced Google search of windows "fix permissions" brings up some helpful stuff though not always for things under the same circumstances as you.

You can do a repair install WITHOUT formatting.

Or you can even try the "repair windows" option from an install CD.

Failing that, Ubuntu LIVE cd, and transfer them\use the PC like that.

I'd have mentioned that too but some info I found suggested that it doesn't check or fix permissions that have gone awry.
