when will the war start ?

Recommended Posts

Hmm,

I'd forgotten about the chemical warfare stocks NK has been building up over the years but was reminded today.

Mostly Sarin, which any idiot could make but nasty, nasty stuff - that complicates things.

Cheers

Yeah, I thought the same thing.

Why haven't they stormed the gates yet? I thought it was fairly widely acknowledged that China has said they WONT back them, if they continue to be idiots; paraphrasing :P but only a little.

Any idiot indeed. That was the stuff Aum Shinrikyo put through the Tokyo subway, wasn't it? And those fellas weren't the brightest bulbs in the pack.

I just had to double check with my work colleague, who is Chinese and fairly recently immigrated

"How likely is China to support NK if something was to happen?"

Basically?

'The people think NK is stupid, and won't support the government if they tried to back them.'

Good to hear.

I know China is a little dictator-y, and 'what the people' want doesn't go to a vote or anything very often, but if that's the public consensus? A government needs people behind it if it wants to lead at all, lol.

Hmm,

The Chinese government is always a bit careful to not upset the populace simply because there is a massive population who have been known to revolt before, there is no way the government would survive such a revolt.

I'd think Japan must be getting more than tired of this crap by now but they have no missile capability of there own to retaliate with. On the other hand turn the JSDF loose and Kim will be shitting in his pants - I've exercised against those guys, bloody good warriors.

You are dead right on sarin Cybes - I'm not about to publish the recipe but it is easier than the meal I'm making tonight...

Cheers

Probably why the Yanks nuked Japan twice to end WW2.

I think that was more of a 'we wanna try this new toy, and we don't understand the effects of fallout fully, yet"

Hmm,

I was in a think-tank that discussed that once. Conventional thinking had it that nuking two cities saved an invasion, less conventional said that having spent all that time and money on the Manhattan Project they had to use them.

I tend to the latter, but I'm well on the record for wishing they hadn't - courtesy of living around nukes I quite literally tick, it is quite possible you do as well, it sort of depends how old you are. In the days of my youth they were still doing open air nuclear tests and the fall-out was carried clean around the world, in both hemispheres several times.

Then I lived around the things in the forces, I seem to be pretty resistant but I avoid X-Rays these days :)

Invasion of Japan during WW2 would have been horrendeously expensive for the USA unless they talked the Emperor into surrendering.

NK isnt' going be much different except both sides have nukes which makes things even more problematic.

Hmm,

They do not have an equivalent to THAAD though, so basically they'd be shooting blanks :)

There was never much of an intention by the U.S. to actually invade Japan - they had plans but with most of the Japanese navy on the bottom of the ocean and their air force blown to pieces, their huge battleships and massive B-29 forces could have just kept pummeling the place to wrack and ruin.

Instead they nuked two cities which did send a pretty strong message - many do not realise the nightly fire-bombing of Tokyo and Yokohama killed more than the nukes did...

The background history remains convoluted and I doubt the U.S. was blameless but Japan attacking Pearl Harbor was one of the stupider acts in history - not a good idea to awake a sleeping giant...

Kim says he's got a hydrogen bomb now.

Well he hasn't tested it yet.

I don't believe they have the ability.

In real terms a fission bomb is not too difficult, a fission/fusion/fission device is much more difficult. The core ingredients are not difficult, deuterium and tritium can be extracted from sea water, but the fission compression to produce the fusion is a work of engineering that I don't see NK having.

Kim will keep flapping his gums though - I really do think a quick SF raid to exterminate the idiot and his potential successors might be rather a good idea.

He just tested it, and it worked. Earthquake of 6.3 detected at an nk test site.

Heh,

Probably not, more likely a simpler nuke that disturbed the plates - not spectacularly stable up there, but they love the drama...

Another missile launch over Japan from Kim

Heh,

I wonder how many pieces that one came apart into ?

There's an articles making the rounds saying they are difficult to intercept so that is why they have not done so.

What a load of rubbish, between Standards off both USN and JSDF ships, THAAD in two known locations and Patriot 3s on Japan itself, it would be a turkey shoot...

Journalists, it's another word for fuckwit - what is actually happening is restraint - how much longer might be a different story.

However in my view a surgical air strike is called for, especially since Kim Idiot threatened Guam which has enough bombers on a regular basis to flatten his entire country in one pass.

Except that China expressly said that would pull them into the conflict due to defence agreements. And picking a fight with China is a Very Dumb Move.

:)

Beijing is running out of patience with Kim, I doubt they'd react Cybes. It's just politics, but picking a fight with China probably would not bother the U.S. much - might bother Beijing - the size and quality of the U.S. forces is pretty impressive...

Quite correct Scruffy, compared to even Russian missiles the NK ones are crap, compared to U.S. ones they are stone-age.

Cheers
