redrob 6 Posted October 13, 2017 Its ok guys and girls im in no rush going to Bali next we for 3 months so when you feel like giving me your views that be great,. Cheers
Roscosity 11 Posted October 13, 2017 (edited) If you're not looking to overclock, go with the Ryzen 1700, that way you get an awesome CPU cooler with it as well :) no need for the X series I could recommend pairing it with our Gigabyte AX370 As a matter of fact, Mwave has a bundle offer here: https://www.mwave.com.au/product/bundle-deal-gigabyte-ax370-gaming-k7-am4-motherboard-amd-ryzen-7-1700-cpu-ac03485 And if you wait JUST a little bit longer, you may find some aftermarket Vega cards :) And RAM, I personally love the Corsair vengeance series(Edited mention of budget) Edited October 13, 2017 by Roscosity
Rybags 1,015 Posted October 14, 2017 There seems to be 3 variants of that suggested board (K3, 5, K7) with a price spread of $90. Would be worth looking into the differences. Also that so-called special price isn't - MSY comes in @ $289/$399 vs $409/$419 minus the $10 discount. But my main WTF is why anyone would want to stay in Bali for 3 months.
redrob 6 Posted October 14, 2017 (edited) My Bro has been suffering from a Supa Bug that he apparently contracted when he had a car accident in Brazil in 2000 ,17 years hes been in pain and fighting this mongrel infection it wasnt bad enough that he was made a paraplegic from the accident But only 6 months ago they removed part of his lung because this bug had been slowly eating away at his organs .He recently gave up the fight and he passed away on the 9/10/2017 2 days before my birthday. This is the main reason im going to bali mate to spread his ashes around Bali as im answering his wish RIP Bro Edited October 14, 2017 by redrob

Dasa 217 Posted October 16, 2017 for gaming i wouldn't both with the 8 core the extras don't really help games yet go with the 1600x its cheaper and a fraction faster in todays games thanks to the higher clock speed for mb i like this one having alc1120 audio it seems like decent value Gigabyte AB350-GAMING 3 $155 2x8g ram if you dont want to oc at all then 2400 is the go but if xmp 3200 proved stable it would provide a nice boost to cpu performance
Master_Scythe 521 Posted October 16, 2017 For gaming, despite being a huge Ryzen fan, I don't think I'd go AMD. You've already said you won't be using the two main features of Ryzen! 1. You won't be overclocking. 2. You're not doing anything that benefits from Ryzens fabric\"real" multiple cores. Games prefer Intels approach to cache management. Ryzen is only the smarter choice when you can overclock a $150 CPU to beat a $300 CPU (which is kinda the whole selling point, IMO). Or if you were doing Video Encoding to make use of the extra cores and cache.
Dasa 217 Posted October 16, 2017 very true the i5 8400 can be ~30% quicker than the 1600 in cpu bound games that use 6 threads or less
Master_Scythe 521 Posted October 16, 2017 very true the i5 8400 can be ~30% quicker than the 1600 in cpu bound games that use 6 threads or less Which, for the foreseeable future, is all of them. Plenty of games come out "Multi core aware" but I don't think I've seen any that actually EVENLY stress cores yet. Have you? (genuine question). I normally see cores 1 & 2 loaded to max, and occasional 3 & 4 being thrown workload spikes. Any other cores might get a 'blip' of activity, but I'm yet to see it heavily tax anything past 4 cores (well, threads).
Dasa 217 Posted October 17, 2017 civ6 seems to benefit from the extra cores\threads on amd cpu as the 1700 is faster than the 1600 when in most games the 1600 is faster due to its clock speed advantage https://www.techspot.com/review/1502-intel-core-i5-8400/page3.html but the intel cpu dont seem to be benefiting with the 7700k and 8700k performing similar ryzen also seems to be performing better when paired with vega than the 1080ti so perhaps the amd drivers are somehow better optimized for multi threading now

As you said, looks more to be architecture dependent more than just 'raw cores'. Also, on topic, well above $2k systems :P lol

redrob 6 Posted October 17, 2017 and a GPU guys Well its been a while since i did an upgrade so im thinking i will sell a shit load more fishing gear and up my new rig to $3000
Master_Scythe 521 Posted October 17, 2017 and a GPU guys Well its been a while since i did an upgrade so im thinking i will sell a shit load more fishing gear and up my new rig to $3000 If you want to save some cash, look at the second hand market for an NVIDIA 1080. It'll laugh at anything you throw at it. If you intend to do VR and are determined to spend a shit load of cash, 1080ti If you just want to play current games at absolute max settings for the next couple of years, a 6GB 1060 or a 1070 will do. VEGA is cool, but regardless of RRP, the "new tech price drop" will be a few months away!
redrob 6 Posted October 18, 2017 thanks Master _Scyhte ys i like the look of VR might keep saving for a bit .A question bout the new Intel Chip the 2600 beast ,im thinking bout the 6 core just for future proof,or the 4 core ,your thoughts please
Jeruselem 634 Posted October 18, 2017 The 1070ti is being released soon so you might get cheaper 1070, 1080 or 1080ti in the future
Nich... 592 Posted October 18, 2017 I'm using a 4 core from a few years ago now, and the only issue I have is when gaming and having 200 tabs open in firefox as well as a flash game in the background. That's not really a typical usecase. Banking on 6 or 8 cores now, at a premium, when you won't use them now but maybe will in the future? Nah.
redrob 6 Posted October 18, 2017 Thanks Nich 200 tabs bahahahaha i have enough trouble with 1 tab open
Roscosity 11 Posted November 3, 2017 The 1070ti really just fits in between the 1070 and 1080 (As you'd expect) Highly recommend going for a 1080 model from one of Nvidia's partners (Like ourselves) Our G1 Gaming has dropped in price recently too, and is a great steal for gaming up to 1440p
