New forum issues/features here (Atomic πi)

Recommended Posts

I just pushed a new theme.  Specific changes:

  • highlighting a post via the checkbox off to the right now leaves the post readable.  I kept the borders the same as the unselected posts, to stop the content from shifting a few pixels.  Hoping the green theme is suitable.
  • spoilers should now be readable.
  • there's a new skin for the RTE bar, to match the rest of the site's 'dark' theme.  Vaguely, anyway.  Pro: it's dark.  Con: it's got some fake 3d bullshit making it harder to read than it should.

Still need to try and prettify the RTE bar, and the read/unread posts.

Let me know your thoughts on the colours chosen.

  • Thanks 1

I don't like it.  But I don't like your face either.

Spoiler

Hey, that's better!  Ok - you did something right at least! ❤️

Did you make the unread stars green?  Saw that on the 'phone this morning, and it's a definite improvement.

Unsure if this has been covered but I've found when you revisit a thread the reply box has the same text as the previous time.

At first I thought it was only when you had something prepared but changed your mind and closed the tab.
But no, I visited the "latest real life purchase" thread and my post from the other day was in the reply box.

I noticed it on my second post with the new forum.  It's not a bug, though: There's a "clear edit window" button down there somewhere.  Having pressed that once, I no longer have the copied text, so I can't give you exact wording or location.

Is it consistently happening?

Also, browser/version/etc

WHARS ME AVATAR?!

Thats OK, I have another one I use everywhere else... maybe I should update....

But then my avatar isn't on my poster making up the huge atomic logo... hmm...

BTW, if anyone has a spare of those posters, I'd love a 2nd 🙂

I didn't get a notification for this one.  Maybe something to do with the mobile site version?

Mobile aside, I think that's my list of theme issues resolved.

Is there anything I've missed?

Looks pretty good. Given the overall look of the default theme, the confirmation dialogs such as the one for mark all read could be darkened a bit, though they aren't big enough to be blinding in the current white.

I had a quick play with the developer tools in Edge, despite it being way out of my league.  Doing a performance profile shows very little CPU usage.  The best I could tell, the google ad script is running a lot, but I don't know if that's the issue.

Did notice that I couldn't replicate it in IE11

OK, this is a bit weird...think it only started tonight, or is getting worse at least: my mouse cursor 'skips' as I move around the page. Very erratic. Makes fine navigation a pain in the arse.

I use Firefox Quantum 62 64-bit and a Logitech G403...for what that knowledge is worth- this issue only happens when browsing atomic...

I have recently noticed that with Chrome 69, Firefox 62 and Edge on Windows 10, and the former two plus Safari on Mac OS 10.13), the CPU will get absolutely smashed when visiting the forums (with no ad-blocker) . With an ad-blocker installed (in my case AdGuard AdBlocker), it believes that this site is attempting to run a crypto-currency miner, as per below:

Atomic.PNG

After pressing cancel the issue goes away (if I pause the ad-blocker the issue will come back).

Have not noticed this with Internet Explorer 11.

Internet Explorer 11 definitely is free of the described issue, so I think I will just it for atomic and Firefox for everything else! 🙂

Very strange and well beyond my knowledge

Running Chrome in Windows 10 x64, and the Atomic tab always runs my CPU at approx 70%. Killing the Atomic tab alone drops my CPU usage back to nix

Just had a look in the parts guide and there is some extra gaps that shouldn't be there

SSD Cache Intel Optane 16\32GB $35\69 Cache Real World Review

HDD 1TB 7200rpm $55
PSU Corsair CX450 Bronze 5y $62 -OR- SilverStone ET550-G Gold 550W 3y $79

CASE Deepcool Smarter $39

For example if i press backspace to remove the gaps this happens

SSD Cache Intel Optane 16\32GB $35\69 Cache Real World ReviewHDD 1TB 7200rpm $55
PSU Corsair CX450 Bronze 5y $62 -OR- SilverStone ET550-G Gold 550W 3y $79CASE Deepcool Smarter $39

As far as i can see the button that revealed the code has disappeared which makes this difficult to fix and I'm unable to copy the thread with all the tweaks to a external text editor.

I think the issue is thehtml link. Can you try editing that to cheat? If not, I can edit the formatting for you manually.

Ah even making new posts.

  • Enter puts text down two lines instead of one using phone or PC.
  • Unless using bulleted list.

I may need to reformat the whole thing.

Shift enter does a single line break, rather than the default two.

Thanks

Is there a list of these handy little shortcuts somewhere?

There's some on the first page of this thread.  Most others are found by accident.
