I'm a bit curious to know which history books AOC has been reading to use the description " concentration camps ", and then think she got it right 😕

There isn't an exact analogy I agree, it depends upon what you regard as a "concentration camp."

You really should watch the video. Germans did not invent concentration camps, nor are theirs exemplars.

I will at home tonight ... My father was at Borneo during WW2 ... I don't believe I stated that Germans invented concentration camps. In fact I'm sure I did not. I am simply astounded that AOC used the descriptor

@Cybes

Perhaps you missed this post of five days ago Cybes.

I don't require AOC to finally try to set her previous statement to right, to know that I was right  all along. And she is still wrong to use the term wrt today's situations.

As for the rest of it about the modified bill, yeah, I had heard about that too.

-.-  Yer shitting me, right?  "Last night you tweeted this..."  There's no "finally" about it - she did that interview the next day.

Also, at at ~5:58 Tapper says "Academically, you're right [but 'ordinary' folks get their panties in a twist because they think 'Deathcamps' (even though she specifically said she wasn't talking about those).]"   Well, she *was* right, and if you could get over your ego long enough to hear her explanation, you might even see why she used such an evocative word.

I don't tweet.

You don't read what I say.

She even admitted in that interview that conditions today were not comparable. She HAD to come up with the reasoning cos she fucking well used a descriptor that was so OTT to begin with.

You really need to just chill and consider that I don't have to agree just because she makes some sort of sense for you.

edit: and Tapper talking down to those that spent time in concentration camps or Japanese internment camps, or had family etc. that did,  just shows how bloody dumb he is too

edit 2: actually iirc it wasn't Tapper who said that about " ordinary folk getting their panties in a twist ",  that was your take on it Cybes ... ordinarily, I would not have expected that from you .

edit 3 : waits patiently for someone to come up with some footage of AOC during Bill Clinton's stint in office ... of course it would mean more if there was footage from Obama's time frame though. She might not have known who Clinton was

^^ this of course is referring to her stance on their dealing of those entering America illegally

Looks like an endorsement to me.

The bar has been lowering for decades, and it's moving ever faster. If that doesn't scare you, you're a moron. If you haven't noticed, you're a moron. If you have no problem with the extinction of propriety, you're a moron.

That's somewhat harsh Walt.

She graduated from Boston Uni in 2011, not exactly a hotbed of commies.

Don't worry though, she's six years away from being able to contend the Presidency, so 2028 at the earliest  🙂

When she’ll have to face Nikki Haley.

Back when I was 15 I had the hots for a girl. Gorgeous girl. Top of her class in everything. As smart a girl as you’re ever likely to meet.

Also, wouldn’t survive a minute if you took the warning labels off everything. Every time I see AOC, I’m reminded of Sophie, that girl.

The only people with less clue than AOC are people who’d vote for her on the basis of belief that the replacement of Big Corporation with Big Government can re-allocate your money better to make sure the useless dregs of society are better represented, not in order to enhance society, but in order to prop up Big Government that can’t sustain the illusion of a pig in lipstick being better than a pig.

Socialism 101. Any socialism. Great as a critique of capitalism, but not the solution to the problems of capitalism.

She is just reporting what she has been told, that does not make it a lie.

I honestly do think she is about as honest as a pollie gets - which means suspect able, but she is at the very least earnest and I'm not sure she yet has much of an agenda.

You don't like her because she despises Trump, whereas you are a Trump-fanboy - admit it  🙂

Which she does not

Vs Hillary? Oh fuck yeah. Aren’t you?

Also I like his foreign policy.

My record while on these forums in terms of Presidents has fluctuated. I backed Bush v Gore. I backed Bush v Kerry. I backed McCain v Obama and Obama v Romney. I backed Huntsman in 2016 until he was knocked out.

This time round if the Democrats get up Buttigieg, Harris, Klobuchar or Biden I’ll support one of them over Trump.

But I’ve got a hard-on for Haley 2024, 2028, 2032, 2036 and 2040.

So were tape recordings of my grandma telling the politburo inspector at her university, about how Marxism was going to transform the world to utopia.

Earnestness is not always a good thing. The Hitler Youth were lovely earnest kids too.

Fun fact Chris. If you overlook her naïveté, earnest lying, socialism, cluelessness and inability to form coherent rational argument rather than streams of consciousness - she’s probably a great girl.

I’d ask her out. It’s be a great date. She’s tell me she’s a socialist. I’d tell her I know nothing about the economy either so we’d have a lot in common.

There’s political capital in being a good looking young woman. Just ask Justin Trudeau - he’s surviving corruption allegations because he’s pretty.

AOC’s only appeal. Everything else... bullshit.

I'm not sure she knows really, the avalanche of information can be very difficult to assimilate, can't really criticise her for that.

Hilary was a debacle I totally understand that, the dems fucked up SO bad, but their voting system is so weird i still struggle to understand it. He did lose the popular vote but in the U.S. that just does not matter, the electoral college has somewhat too much power, now, the demographic has changed.

I personally think Trump's foreign policy is an utter debacle with some very nasty time bombs - he is being played like the fish he is.

Sorry mate, horribly tired, continue in the morning  🙂

Doesn't matter here either. In '98 Beazley won the popular vote but Howard won the election.

Yeah I can. Cos wtf is she doing spouting something she finds " difficult to assimilate, " ?  And then  expects us all to believe her ?  << actually,  I guess the fact that she does that, gives her the creds to be a politician ... give her a few years and those pretty slightly crazy brown eyes will pollie-speak along with Warren and Harris like old time buddies ... she might want to sit a little away from Biden though

Heh.

Re "The avalanche of information" I read a thought piece this week that was genuinely concerned about Trump's persistent lying. It came to the conclusion that he can never admit he doesn't know everything but he consistently bullshits to be able to answer. A  simple example was his comment relating to the privatisation of the English NHS. He rather obviously did not know what the NHS was and even after being thrown a bone of clarification he persisted saying something like "We're looking into it, be back to you in a couple of weeks."

He has said those sort of things very often and never once has he "gotten back."

The conclusion was that bullshitting was in many ways more dangerous than out and out lying - the sad truth is we expect pollies to lie.

With Trump it is isn't necessary to expect it, if his lips are moving he's lying or he is out of his depth.

Actually no Leo, I don't find AOC particularly cute at all but I think a lot of Trump fanbois do and see that as a threat.

It is indeed possible here to win the popular vote but lose the election, but it is easier to have that happen in the U.S. The AEC does a sterling job of adjusting the political boundaries here in line with the last census but it cannot be expected to always keep up especially when elections can be unpredictably called. Still, at least we don't have the bemusing middle layer of an electoral college.

It is in this world very, very dangerous to dismiss trump's complete lack of understanding of international politics as being some kind of an experiment in something new.

He's a demonstrable fuckwit in the arena wanting to treat everything as a "Deal" and he didn't even write the book, it was ghost written.

Kim, who is not exactly a heavyweight in the intellectual arena himself, played him to a T by meeting him at the DMZ. It is in Kim's interest to make him look good. The same goes for Putin at the G20. If you want to understand why Trump should not win the next election have a look at how the enemies of democracy are making him look good.

If you are still harping on about AOC calling the internment camps "concentration camps" EV leave it go, it has been well demonstrated to you that she was completely within her rights to call them such , because they are.

The best Trump joke, and they are legion, that I've heard in the past few weeks, goes as follows.

Nancy Pelosi and DJ Trump happen to die on the same day.

They arrive at the pearly gates together and St Peter says there is a new experiment in progress, we are going to send you back to earth for a month as anything you want to be then we'll come get you, so what do you want to be ?

Pelosi says she wants to be an eagle and soar over Wisconsin for a month.

Trump says he wants to be a stud.

Off they go.

A month later St Peter summons an angel and tells him to go fetch them.

Sure say the angel, how do I find them ?

Oh, Pelosi will be easy, she's be soaring over Wisconsin with all the other eagles lined up following her.

Trump might take a while, he's in a snow tire somewhere in Montana.

In closing I will note that I was very sympathetic to Ivanka this week. She is actually pretty damned smart but also simply out of her depth so she was savaged by the political vultures at the G20 - guilt by association with her dad.

Cheers

Smart people have fucked the world for 70y. Climate change is because of smart people. All the wars we’ve had are because of smart people.

The UN’s setup of wolves judging sheep for murder of wolves is because of smart people. European reliance on Russian gas is because of smart people. Not letting a war be won to a conclusion with the Sri Lanka/Tamil Tigers exception, is because of smart people. Demanding Israel give up land to get peace with invader Arabs is because of smart people. Boosting early-days Erdogan because the world’s lefties needed a puppet openly Muslim leader who was not a raving lunatic, was the work of smart people. Ignoring genocide in West Papua was the work of smart people. Creating an open-borders utopia Europe with a leadership and electoral structure akin to Tehran’s was the work of smart people.

I say let DJT have a turn. Best case, he fixes it. Worst case, he sets the smouldering ruin of the “international rules based order” on the fire of a thousand suns.

Amusingly, the best and worst he could do, is better than anything anyone has done for 70y.

So let the monkey at it. Baboons Away!

Not sure you could find the money Ev....

Leo...

We are in simple fact playing with the real world here, not some parlor game where we can reset reality tomorrow.

Trump for better or worse is the leader of the so-called free world and he is being utterly delinquent in his duty whist (although I do think most but not all of the generals would take his toys away from him) he has control of literally planet destroying capabilities that in a pique of rage because he did not get his way he could try to unleash.

I'm not exaggerating here, he is actually stupid enough to think the best way to deal with Iran might be to nuke them.

I do not think he is actually smart enough to consider downwind consequences - you know, what killed John Wayne...

I'm just glad to be living in the Southern hemisphere on the the other side of the equatorial divide but radiation is not much of a respecter of that.

The man is an utter fuckwit and he has progressively surrounded himself with fuckwits whist dismissing anyone of consequence that was there in the beginning. He is fighting a rear-guard action that he will eventually lose and wind up in jail, if his eating habits don't kill him first. He is worth nothing like what he claims and a significant amount of what he actually has has been garnered by deceit.

In the end he is pathetic but it is not acceptable to have pathetic people in charge.

Cheers

The difference between a non-raving Trump supporter, ie just an exasperated John Citizen, is that Mr Citizen is sick of hearing that shit about Trump while people smarter than Trump have fucked literally everything and now we’re a few years away from sending people to jail for calling someone with a mental health issue by their correct pronoun. We’re firing footballers whose job is to carry an egg between two lines very very quickly, because they post something on the internet. They’re not even fucken paid to inform opinion. Why is their opinion relevant to their work?

There’s something fundamentally rottenly wrong and the exasperation is infecting the middle.

We are the men and women who just want to see the world burn and all the old rules replaced. None of that shit has worked.

You can tell me Trump is a dangerous moron. All you want. I’m just dancing around the fire as the old rules-based order burns.
