What a joke

Recommended Posts

Interesting.

I did not watch the entire debate, had to go out, but apparently O'Rourke made a statement about mandatory buy-back of assault weapons that so enraged some gun-toting republican moron, from Texas no less, so much that he threatened O'Rourke on twitter - specifically his AR-15 was waiting for O'Rourke.

It has been reported to the FBI, which could get interesting.

I've no idea if the U.S. CAN put the brakes on gun related violence, it may well be too late, but I will back any politician who makes the attempt, especially when he is a Texan from the land of open-carry.

Some moron on Quora actually tried to support open carry the other day, saying it kept the peace.

Usually I do not respond much there but I had to. Told him I was from Australia, we think differently, like, we don't need to be armed to go shopping.

Being he'd used an image of a woman who otherwise looked like a housewife in a supermarket with an automatic on her hip in plain sight, I thought it was the least I could do. Thus far no response.

They really are in a mess, or perhaps they just never moved past the myth of the Wild West.

Either way the assault weapons need to go as but the first phase of disarming the country - or rather the mass of incompetents who legally own guns there.

Rocky roads ahead - I doubt the NRA will give up their "God Given Right" without a fight.

Truly sometimes  I utterly despair of the country in total.

Cheers

Nope. Third rail and all + they all decided killing kids in mass shootings was ok post Sandy Hook - and remember that was with a Democrat President.

I don't think it really matters which party is in power, gun violence transcends politics - it does not transcend the  ugly entity know as the NRA.

O'Rourke obviously said something to attract threats, I did not see that part.

Cheers

O’Rourke’s polling in percentage points barely exceeds Sanders’ Economic IQ.

He can say anything he wants up to and including the healing power of crystals; he ain’t gonna be the nominee. The entire field are surrogate copies of Warren and Sanders.

The only ones that don’t fit the mould are Biden, Yang and maybe Buttigieg. Williamson too but that is basically the crazy cat lady of crazy cat ladies.

Realistically speaking, there’s a 99% probability the party of gender fluidity and Wakanda forever are gonna choose an old white dude in his 70s.

Because the same anti-elite anti-PC forces that handed Trump a victory are alive and well in the Democrat Party and they also want to deliver a massive “fuck you” to the progressive “outrage twats on Twitter” section of the party.

I've said before i'm not at all  sure O'Rourke really wants to run this time anyway, he could well just be along for the ride and bide his time until 2024.

You may well be right that it ends up being two geriatrics dueling it out but I do sincerely hope not.

America deserves better, certainly better than Trump but also better than Biden, he's just not the man for the job.

He could always identify as a woman...

Whole “man for the job” argument goes away if you think about it.

By the time the elections actually happen Biden will be out of it all having what is politely called a " well earned rest"  in the Hamptons or some such place

Frankly Ev that would not surprise me much.

There is a distinct feeling he is writing cheques his body can't cash.

Of course the same may come to be said of Trump.

Dunno J.

He really cannot bluff the Iranians, they seem to have moved to stage - next and are gambling on a lot of cheap but effective missiles to negate the U.S.'s airborne threat.

I'm not really sure that is a particularly good idea.

If, for example, they attempt a strike to knock out F-35s on the ground i n the UAE the traditional response is that they are actually attacking the UAE, who do have a quite competent ability to respond, although they probably would not, the tinder is way too dry there at the moment, one spark and the region goes up in flames.

In the air the battle-centric networking of disparate U.S. forces is yet to be proven but they have been exercising the hell out of for quite a time and are sort of itching to put it to the test.

If a flurry of missiles does come out of Iran when the U.S. is just patrolling outside airspace and they get defeated Iran has played its card and now is shame-faced. If some did get through Trump has all the excuse he needs to turn loose the very big guns at his disposal.

It's somewhat lose/lose for Iran either way and with Saudi decidedly angered by the Iranian backed attacks on their oil facilities the Mullahs are just completely and utterly out-gunned.

That might not stop them of course, they are rather demonstrably nuts but there is no easy path for them to take.

Unfortunately they really are insane enough in my estimation to think that a good thing...

I'm still counting on the saner heads within Iran to take over, no idea when but I do think they will.

The Saudis are bombing the Yemeni rebels who they have sided with Iran so a proxy war where Saudis vs Iran is being played because the Saudis back the Yemen government and Iran backs the rebels. Add to that the Saudis have US protection, and well Saudis are using US (and Australian) weapons against Yemen rebels.

Precisely.

I don't know that Australian aircraft are participating in raids on Yemen rebels, I rather assume not but that area has been in bloody chaos since even before the Brits cleared out with their "West of Yemen"policy that is many decades old.

When I say the Brits were one of the better colonists I do not ever mean they were much good at it, India/Pakistan, Hong Kong, Falklands and indeed Yemen, let alone Nigeria, they really did not do such a good job at all.

Yemen however is a particularly confusing place, I'm really not at all sure to whom it actually belongs. Seems to be pretty much a classic case of Arab violence, because.

Nobody wins when the least infarction just leads to another round of violence but Arabs seem to thrive on it.

Australia have always been USA lapdog, and yet again we are following our master into another conflict.

Yemeni rebels probably have gotten Iranian drones, the good ones. Explains why they evaded detection on those facilities.

Well, lapdogs to a degree but tales abound of Aussie pilots not blindly obeying U.S. FACs often saving large collateral damage.

I'd agree on the drones though, just trying to imagine how you really can defend against such things if they are small, near radar transparent and in an oil facility do not need to achieve much to create utter chaos.

Saudis verified my guess the Houthis were using Iranian drones

Yeah,

The sat. evidence goes further actually, pretty much proves cruise missiles from Iran.

That seems to have badly rattled Trump but thus far he has not directly accused them, Pompeo has.

It's sort of old new @Kimmo we all should know by now that he is nuts, lets just hope he's not nuclear nuts.

You got the Saudis who are dubious allies, trigger happy USA and nut case Iran. Then you got Israelis doing stuff in the background. it's a mess. The Saudis and Israelis want to neutralise Iran ... they might get their wish, courtesy of Trump.

So do the Israelis.

It's a bit too far for them to stage a Baghdad-style raid on the Iranian nuclear facilities, although I would not put it past them - they've surprised us before.

Yes, a total mess, caused in the main by Trump tearing up the agreement brokered by Obama and exacerbated by Iranian support in the Yemen dispute.

We could very easily get dragged in, half way there already.

Better hope I'm right about the Iranian people having had  enough of this nonsense or the ME is about to become a full-on battleground yet again.

Robert Reich may be staunchly anti GOP, but he's not prone to hyperbole. That's some pretty strong language he's using there, and the examples he cites are just absolutely bananas - the orange fucktrumpet is taking crazy to a whole new level.

Stand back a bit and it looks absolutely bonkers that there's any argument about busting out the 25th amendment...

Utter foot-shooting madness has been successfully normalised.

No argument from me Kimmo, Well aware he is nuts but his party does still control Senate - makes it difficult to kick him out unless the 25 th amendment allows Reps alone to do so, and I don't think it does. It's if i'm reading it correctly an untried amendment in any event.

Cheers
