AJAX - Why XML?

Recommended Posts

I am just wondering why AJAX has to use XmlHttpObject and why Javascript and a server side language would not work with just a HttpObject if it existed.

Are AJAX applications the only real reason to use XHTML?

The original object was develop by MS for there outlook mail client, it was the only Active X object that widely implemented allowing async script calls to be made, It took a smart person to realise its potential and educate the rest of the world. Thus ajax was born.

JSON and XML are both just ways of transferring data.

XMLHttpObject without the XML (or JSON) would be just a data transfer method with no data.

XML was chosen because it's easy to parse, so long as it's well formed. JSON has been taken up for the same reasons.
