Ear plugs...

Recommended Posts

My wife moans and snores prettly loudly. More moaning than snoring. The Doctors have told her it's not physical or mental. It's just how she sleeps.

I find it really hard to get a restful nightsleep.

I've tried a few ear plugs, but I have REALLY narrow ear canals and am not able to fit even the soft squishy ones in my ears properly.

Anyone able to reccomend anything I can use or some places in Melbourne that do custom fittings and or solutions?

I got about 3 hours of sleep last night and I'm exhausted today.

I do not want to sleep in another room. But I'd like to be able to sleep with my wife and still get a nice night sleep.

Sorry to hear about your predicament, although it did make me smile, usually its the other way around and the bloke ends up on the couch due to his incessant snoring.

Now to help out a bit - did you know there are different sizes of ear plugs? Here at work we have heaps of different types because many people have different sized ear canals.

I dont have any on me now - give me an hour or so, I will be underground where we keep most of the earplugs and I can let you know the brand.

The sizes are really quite small - even with the tiniest ear canals they will fit.

Haha you mean you cant hear yourself snore :D

Ok the one of the smaller earplugs we have at work is the prosafe PS-1, EPPSR. Bloody tiny things. So small that I cant wear them for fear of falling into the immense space between me ears.

Linkage : http://www.safetyco.com.au/docs/hearing.pdf (PDF WARNING! :D) product EA-04854799. Well at least I think so, as the ones here are yellow and green.

Hope this helps bro.

Thanks a lot. I'll check some of those out.

It was weird, because we had some of those squishy ones that you mold with your fingers then stick in your ear canal, and it wouldn't go in. I'd never used them before, I had always used over the ear headphones because ear buds fell out. So I never tried using ear plugs like those.

Anyway... I'm sitting here trying to stick them in my ears and they wont go in. They keep falling out. And I'm like... baby, these things won't fit. And she's all, stop fat fingering them squish them down and nudge them in.

I finally get her to come look and it turns out I have small oval slits rather than round holes. No doctor has ever bothered to mention this over all the years of having that light jammed in my ear during a regular check up.

WTF? Apparently I'm a fucking fish or something.

Anyway, I'll try buying some of those and seeing what I can fit. Just try a bunch and hopefully find one that works.

Thanks again!

Have a look around on Yellowpages for hearing specialists. I'm a drummer and use custom moulded earplugs for live gigs and rehearsals to save my hearing. You can get them for around $120.

Are you rolling them tightly between your fingers, and pulling the top of your ear (that grisly bit) upwards while gently pushing them in? They need to go quite deep. Dont be afraid of pushing them in too far - its not possible to lose them in your ear.

The yellow and green ones can be squeezer down to a thickness resembling a bic pen (the skinny see-through ones) so if you can fit one of those in - the ear plug shouldnt be a problem.

I am no way advocating sticking pens in your ears to test the size either!
