WPA -> WPA2

Recommended Posts

I've got a WPA2-capable wireless modem/router that serves 4 laptops. Three of the laptops can also use WPA2 but one of them is only able to use original WPA, which forces me to use the lower-security option. Is it possible to upgrade the older one to WPA2 through a new driver or software wrapper? It's an Atheros chipset in the wireless NIC, not sure exactly what the model or manufacturer is. The laptop in question is still working fine so I'm not keen to purchase a whole new one just to upgrade the NIC.

The only other option I can think of is to disable the internal NIC and purchase an external (PCMCIA or USB) unit that supports WPA2.

can't your wireless router do WPA/WPA2? Mine can be setup so that the clients connect using the security they're capable of.

I didn't know this was possible, I'll have to look into it. (Although, I suspect I won't be able to do this.)

Do you assign a unique passkey to each or do they share the same one?
